When purchasing cable and wire rope, it is crucial to choose the construction that is best suited to your application needs. In today’s blog, we will look at some of the main similarities and differences between 6x19 and 6x37 constructions. Continue reading for an overview of each of these constructions and find out which application each is best suited towards.

6x19 & 6x37 Construction Similarities:

  • Both available in galvanized and stainless steel
  • Have six outer strands
  • Highly flexible compared to other constructions such as 1x7 strand
  • High strength properties
  • Exceptional wear resistance
  • Extremely Durable
  • Both have similar breaking strengths
  • Multiple sizes come as an independent wire rope core (IWRC)
  • Stainless steel constructions are available in numerous grades (depending on cable size)

6x19 Unique Characteristics:

  • Less flexible than 6x37 construction
  • Galvanized version commonly used in logging
  • Often used as heavy-duty guard rails & mooring lines
  • Great general properties allow construction to be used in many other industries, including excavating, logging, dredging, and marine environments

6x37 Unique Characteristics:

  • More flexible than 6x19 construction
  • Better fatigue resistance due to 6x37 having more small wires per strand than 6x19
  • Reduced abrasion resistance compared to the 6x19 construction
  • Primarily used in heavy-duty hoisting equipment, including excavators, skidders, shovels, cranes, and derricks

Now that you know the differences between these two constructions, you will easily identify which construction is best suited to your project.
