When it comes to custom cable assemblies, there are many different customizations available. These customizations are few important choices to make, as it ensures you meet your custom mechanical cable assembly needs. This blog will provide key information about the types of constructions, plastics, and coatings available on Sanlo cables. By choosing the suitable custom options on your cable, you are sure to find the best-suited product for your application.

Constructions:

The type of construction you choose for your cable or strand products is highly important. A few common constructions offered at Sanlo include 1×7, 1×19, 7×7, 7×19. 1x7 and 1x19 constructions are classified as strand, meaning the product's wires are wrapped a single core. By having one core wire, strand products are generally not very flexible but offer high levels of stretch resistance. 7x7 and 7x19 constructions are classified as cable, meaning the product is a wrapped group of strands. Cable is more flexible than strand, and its multiple strands result in high breaking strength.

Bare vs Jacketed:

A bare cable is an economical option that is referred to on products that do not have an additional outside coating. Jacketing refers to the process of adding a coating to a wire rope cable. Adding a coating to a cable will help improve the product in a few different ways. Primarily, a coating will provide protection against harsh environmental conditions. A jacketed cable will also reduce stress on the cable and potentially combat corrosion. There are two jacketed plastics offered by Sanlo, vinyl and nylon.

Vinyl vs Nylon Coatings:

Both of these plastics are great choices for jacketed cable, but each has unique advantages. Vinyl is the most common plastic extruded over cable and is flexible and relatively low cost. Vinyl's best quality is its ability to withstand UV rays and also offers resistance to acids and water. Nylon has better resistance to fatigue and abrasion than vinyl and is extremely durable. Nylon can also operate in a wider range of temperatures than vinyl.

Now that you understand the numerous constructions, jacketed & bare cable, and vinyl & nylon coatings, you will easily be able to choose the right custom cable for your application!
